Alumnus sings National Anthem at local event

Newly graduated, not a care in the world and soon to become a college freshman, or so she thought.

Former Journalism III student and singer Adia Horvath was recently given the opportunity to sing the National Anthem at a venue close to home, for those who did not make it home.

“I usually just sing for fun and/or at random venues,” Horvath said. “Singing is more of a hobby for me usually.”

Through affiliations with the local military community, the Jason Ray Workman Legacy Foundation in particular, Horvath helped honor fallen heroes when she sang for family members and supporters of the Annual Extortion 17 Legacy Ride which is dedicated to the memory of the 30 active duty military, and 1 military working dog, who were killed in action on August 6, 2011, when a CH–47 helicopter was shot down by enemy fire in Wardak Province, Afghanistan.

The event, which began off of General Booth Blvd. came to a close with a motorcycle ride that ended at Chick’s Oyster Bar off of Shore Dr., where Horvath sang her heart out.

“I could not believe I was asked to sing the National Anthem to the friends and family of these incredible men who gave the ultimate sacrifice,” Horvath said. “It was not an opportunity I could pass up and it was such an honor.  What an amazing experience to have right before leaving for college.”
