JV field hockey leaves it on the field
“My JV team comes to practice everyday ready to work. Never complaining and always wanting to work hard. They are coach-able and want to improve everyday. They have a winning record and continue to come together as a team,” Rhea said.
The trophy cases that sit in the school’s halls house the numerous state, conference and district titles won by the Lady Falcons Junior Varsity (JV) Field Hockey team. The natural talent of these female student athletes on the field is visible and it’s paid off for many of them. Currently there are six college commits and many looking to achieve the same goal, many products of the JV squad.
This season the JV girls team holds a 7-1 record and are looking to earn the number one spot in the district. The team’s success can be contributed to long time Head Coach and science teacher Claye Rhea.
According to Rhea, the team this year consists of mainly underclassmen with a handful of juniors who she pushes to better themselves on and off the field and to prepare them for when they get the call to move on to varsity.
Junior Rachel Marion shares why Coach Rhea is the glue that holds the team together.
“She always comes with a positive attitude to practice, she encourages us to try our best everyday, she’s a great role model and she makes the best out of everything we do,” Marion said.
In many cases, when it comes to JV and Varsity sports teams, the JV team isn’t viewed as important. That’s not the case with the Lady Falcons Field Hockey program, however. The two teams work side by side and click well together. Both teams have the same mindset, not only to win but to follow the same philosophy of working hard. The respect they have for each other allows for their program to be one of the best in the state if not the best.
“My JV team comes to practice everyday ready to work. Never complaining and always wanting to work hard. They are coach-able and want to improve everyday. They have a winning record and continue to come together as a team,” Rhea said.
