Level up for leadership
SCA Representatives from each Virginia Beach high school were recently chosen to serve as counselors and staff members for the Virginia Beach Elementary SCA Leadership Workshop.
Over 200 elementary students from all over the Beach District were selected as delegates to learn important leadership skills such as role modeling, decision making, and how to hold effective meetings. The theme for the 2015 workshop was “Level up for Leadership,” built around the virtual gaming world of Minecraft, Candy Crush, Angry Birds, and more. The delegates attended meetings, watched skits, and participated in relay games.
Virginia Beach Coordinator of Student Leadership MaryAnn Lafler worked with workshop coordinators Katie Cosimano and Drew Midgette to put together the largest workshop in 30 years with a record-breaking number of participants.
“I love being involved with leadership workshops, but there’s something truly special about extending this opportunity to our school system’s littlest leaders. The high school staff works extremely hard to prepare for the workshop and served as great role models for the younger students who attended,” Lafler said. “We say that ‘leadership is a service’ and this program truly embodies that philosophy!”
