Army recruiter receives gift from art students

November 19, 2014

ADVANCED ART TEACHER Cathy Opfer presented local Army Recruiters student-painted ceiling tiles representing the school.

Advanced Art class students put their skills to work by creating ceiling tile designs for local military personnel in recognition for their service to our country.

Students painted unique representations of a falcon, the school’s mascot, on the tiles, then gifted them to local Army recruiter, Staff Sargent Josh P. Gibbs, to display in his office as a symbol of gratitude.

According to Gibbs, the significance behind this event was to increase the school’s representation in their headquarters.

Currently, the only art work from a local school in the building is from Kellam High School.

The students from the art class based their designs on former planners, designed by students such as seniors Kelly Penn and Casey Bowler.

Other tile contributor include seniors Jack Sullivan and Alexis Grice, as well as juniors Georgia Dacruz and Duncan Dewey.

The artwork was delivered to Sargent Gibbs after Veteran’s Day.
