MVP: meet our varsity football captains
Senior Bryan Campbell
Q. What responsibilities does being a captain hold?
A. “Being captain means everyone looks up to you and counts on you. You have to set an example for others and make tough decisions, whether they’re the popular choice or not.”
Q. How were you selected as captain? Did the coaches choose you or did your teammates?
A. “The coaches chose all of the captains because they felt we were the best fit for the team.”
Q. How do you keep other members of the team motivated?
A. “Keeping everyone motivated is all about attitude and effort. Everyone has to work hard during practice in order to stay motivated. Practice is always a grind, but captains, coaches and players all work together to keep the motivation and intensity high.
Senior Isaiah Fenner
Q. What challenges have you faced so far this season and what challenges do you expect to face throughout the year?
A. “I face the challenge of adjusting to new plays each week and doing my job on defense, as well as helping my other teammates.”
Q. What goals do you have to improve your record from last year?
A. “I want to make decisions to better my plays on the field when possible and I also want to keep my team motivated every game.”
Q. How do you get along with the other captains? Do you work well together?
A: “Of course, I’ve known Mikey, Tommy, and Bryan since we were little kids. We played recreational league football with the Great Neck Buckeyes together, so those guys are like my brothers.”
Senior Mikey DeMasi
Q. What will be, or has been, the hardest game this year? Why?
A. “Even though we already played them, Ocean Lakes was definitely our hardest game because they are ranked number one in the state. It was a tough game because they have a strong line of defense.
Q. How do you plan on beating the teams you lost to last year?
A. “The only team left to play that beat us last year is Bayside. We just need to stick to our game plan and control the line of scrimmage.”
Q. How long have you been playing football?
A. I’ve been playing for most of my life. I was on a recreational league team when I was a little kid and played all through middle and high school.
Senior Tommy McKee

Q. What do you do to prepare your team before the games?
A. “We make sure that they are focused on their responsibilities and focused on winning the game.”
Q. What have you learned about yourself through the leadership of being captain?
