A small, hidden addition to the Marina Shores Shops is seafood restaurant A Bite of Maine, which offers top-notch seafood imported from Maine every weekend. ‘A Bite of Maine’ is open only on Thursday through Sunday, with an opening time of 11 am, and closes, depending on the day, between 2 and 7 pm.
This week’s food review was special as Journalism legends Max Palmerton and Bray Lyons returned from college for the fall break. Palmerton pioneered the food reviews alongside alum Blake Heselius.
Walking into ‘A Bite of Maine’ is almost like turning back time. The restaurant’s interior offers an old-school aesthetic with red and white checkered tablecloths and several paintings of lobsters strategically placed throughout. The popular establishment is especially busy on the weekends, so plan accordingly. Outside seating is available, but they do not accept reservations. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient, and can help with any customer questions or needs.
Seafood is the “star of the sea” at ‘A Bite of Maine’, and the “Lobstah roll” is the dish that has helped it earn its reputation. Outside of the LobstAH, they serve crab rolls and several other seafood options.
According to the website, the restaurant specializes in delicious Maine Lobster Rolls and other favorite Maine seafood, such as haddock fish & chips, chowders, whole belly fried clams, and more.
The taste at ‘A Bite of Maine’ is out of this world. The rolls are a buttery delight, and the seafood is delicious, which would explain its numerous nods received from Coastal Virginia and Virginia Living magazines, as well as Buzzfeed’s commendation for one of the best lobster rolls in America. The tasty seafood also received some of the highest ratings in the history of Falcon Press food reviews.
The restaurant also has its own food truck. The original owners used to operate out of this vibrant red roadster that would make the trek down from Maine every weekend. After receiving a surplus of positive feedback, they decided to open up their own restaurant, and they have not looked back since.
However, this weekend, the truck will be out and about, from Friday, October 17, to Sunday, October 19.
