Shorebreak Pizza and Taphouse is a well-known, family-friendly dining spot not only to locals but also to many who visit the Virginia Beach area. Shorebreak’s main location is on Shore Drive, but they recently opened a new restaurant across town in Pungo with spectacular views of the water. The popular venue was named as one of “the Best of the Beach” and featured in Men’s Health magazine.
Shorebreak is like a Swiss Army knife, offering several different dining experiences to fit anyone’s palate. Shorebreak is best known for its dim lighting and cozy atmosphere.
It is actually a sports bar, though, with over 20 televisions located around the restaurant, a small game room that is set off to a side, and more kid-oriented. Pool tables, corn-hole boards, and a large bar add to the vast layout. To complement the sports-oriented decor, the wait staff dresses in referee-style uniforms to complete the look.
Shorebreak’s menu and wide array of food do not disappoint. While the restaurant is a bit pricey, the overall experience offsets the cost. Paying a few more dollars is nothing after tasting their famous pizza that comes from a 60-year-old family recipe. The pizza comes in different sizes with the option to build your own, which includes the crust, the sauce, and the toppings. There is, of course, the option to order one of the specialty pizzas.
The jumbo chicken wings come in regular and boneless with an endless selection of sauces and dry rubs. Shorebreak also offers flavored milkshakes, mocktails, and specialty cocktails. A kid’s menu and take-out are always available, and they incorporate a Sunday brunch complete with specialty breakfast and lunch choices..
Locals return again and again to enjoy the atmosphere and to order whatever their heart desires. Tacos, sandwiches, salads, and a variety of specialty burgers. The restaurant also serves appetizers such as fried pickles, which keep customers busy as they wait for their food to arrive.
The Shorebreak review included seniors Jacob Palmerton, Zane Perry, and Nate Wallace, who were joined by junior Hunter Tromly and sophomore Trey “X-Factor” Miller. The group shared fried pickles, cheese curds, steak tacos, the ultimate smash burger, bourbon-glazed wings, a chicken caesar wrap, and stuffed quesadillas. The boys were highly complimentary of the food, the atmosphere, and the overall vibe Shorebreak brings to the beach.
