The Falcons girls’ and boys’ varsity volleyball teams played dedication games in honor of the national non-profit organization Morgan’s Message.
The organization is dedicated to former Duke lacrosse player Morgan Rodgers, who succumbed to mental health stigmas surrounding women in sports, ultimately taking her own life after struggling with the pressure of being a student-athlete while recovering from a serious injury.
CHS now has its own Morgan’s Message chapter, and is led by girls’ varsity soccer player, senior Ava Dove, and lacrosse players, juniors Lainey Kimnach and Harper Wilbricht, who are the acting ambassadors for the school. The soccer and volleyball programs hosted dedication games last spring in support of the cause.
To raise awareness, Dove, Kimnach, and Wilbricht have been working with sponsors Mrs. Marlar and Coach Ripa, as well as other coaches in the school, to make the dedication games meaningful.
When playing dedication games, both girls’ and boys’ teams wear special Morgan’s Message T-shirts that come in a special shade of teal, Rodger’s favorite color, with a special butterfly logo as a symbol of honor and remembrance. In addition, at all dedicated games, a table is set up with brochures and information to help learn more about the organization and its mission.
“I’m so excited that volleyball will participate in this school year’s first dedication game. These games bring amazing teams and groups of like-minded people together for a great cause. We hope to spread awareness so everyone can understand the impact behind Morgan’s Message,” Wilbricht said.
