Team Coffee Shop has shone bright under school alumnus and lead teacher Bailee “Adams” Meekings. Each term, Meekings creates new ideas for her students to participate in, enabling them to have similar high school experiences as their peers.
The latest endeavor was last week’s “Spring Fling” dance. Coffee Shop students teamed up with Virginia Teachers for Tomorrow (VTfT) and Leadership class students to make the event classy and memorable for everyone involved.
“The most exciting part of the event was that we were all able to dress up in suits and gowns so the participating students would feel more comfortable and involved,” Erma Bailey said.
Meekings also took it upon herself to invite students from other VBCPS high schools to join the festivities, which were held in the school’s gym from 10 a.m. to noon. Kempsville, Bayside, Kellam, and First Colonial High School all sent students to the first-ever “Spring Fling,” where all students, including VTfT and Leadership, danced the morning away.
“I think 40+ kids attended, a great turnout, and everyone was having a great time,” Meekings said. “Overall, I was impressed with the help we received from VTfT and Leadership, who also took part in the fun. My students and the students from other schools were mingling, and they had smiles on their faces.”
Just a few events included in the “Spring Fling” included activities such as dancing to a playlist of songs created by the on-site DJ, a photobooth, games, and more.
Team Coffee Shop was pleased with the result and look forward to continuing the tradition in the future.
