Spanish teacher Mrs. Hatcher has not been a Falcon for long but has plenty of experience working with students. She has been teaching for 25 years and six of those have been here at the school. Hatcher creates a vibrant and positive learning environment for her students, making learning cooperative and fun for the whole class. She constantly spreads positivity and kindness to everyone she encounters and we are lucky to have her smiling face at CHS.
Q: What are some of your most effective classroom management techniques?
A: “I think it’s important to build a relationship with the students because if they know that you like them and care about them then they’re more likely not to act out.”
Q: How do you assess and track student progress throughout the school year?
A: “In Spanish, we do listening, reading, writing, and speaking assessments, so there are four different skills that we kind of have to keep track of throughout the year along with like, teaching vocabulary and grammar so I do lots of little quizzes that assess each little skill and then one big one at the end to pull it all together.”
Q: How do you prepare students for life beyond high school, whether that be college, career, or personal development?
A: “I just try to be there for them when they have questions and give them ideas of things that they’re good at and what that might translate to is a future career.”
Q: What do you believe is the most important thing for students to learn?
A: “I think learning how to treat others and be kind is probably the most important thing but also life skills like doing work on time, coming prepared, and just being willing to learn. I think those are all important life skills.”
