The #Lunchbag initiative is an annual event sponsored by the Student Council Association (SCA) offering students the opportunity to gather after school to assemble lunches for those who might otherwise find themselves in need of and without assistance during long and short school breaks.
SCA sponsors Mrs. Morgan and Ms. Bellissimo understand the importance of the charitable event and the difference it can make for those who struggle to make ends meet.
“This annual event has always been a great way to bring the community together to help those in need,” Bellisimo said.
With the help of 100+ students in multiple sports, clubs, and honor societies, SCA was given enough donations and supplies to actually assist those in need within the community. Some donations included deli meats, healthy snacks, treats, and handwritten letters intended to promote positivity.
SCA has surpassed its goal many times in previous years, and Tuesday’s event was no different. This year’s #Lunchbag goal was to pack 800 brown bags with edible items in an hour. Per usual, students surpassed the initial goal, making 869 bags, 69 more than the goal.
According to Mrs. Morgan, #Lunchbag was started nine or ten years ago by former student Charlie Prince, along with his family and friends. He wanted to give back to the community in a meaningful way that made sense to high schoolers.
