Advanced Placement (AP) Biology and Anatomy teacher Ms. Shumate has been teaching at for 20 years, mostly at the school, providing a positive and stress-free learning environment for all students. Shumate contributes to the school not only through teaching, but through all of the activities she involves herself in. She is a powerhouse and the school is fortunate to have her smiling face each and every day.
Q: What led you to pursue teaching?
A: “I hoped to find a profession that would make a difference and make the world better.”
Q: What is your favorite part about teaching?
A: “My favorite part about teaching is the students. I love seeing them start out the school year open minded and watching them grow and develop into passionate individuals.”
Q: What impact do you hope to have on your students?
A: I hope they know that they are loved and they have someone who they can always rely on.”
Q: How do you foster a positive classroom environment?
A: “The setting needs to be warm and comfortable. It’s also important to build relationships and treat everyone with respect.”

A: “With open arms and love.”
Q: What is one thing you want your students to take away from your class?
A: “I want them to know that they made a difference in my life and they can do hard things.”
