Biology, Anatomy and Physiology teacher Ms. Moresco has been a positive influence, sparking motivation in her students in the classroom. Not only is she a bright light within the school, she is also the head coach of the girl’s varsity softball team. Both her students and her players find her energy, positivity and spirit contagious. Moresco has been at the school for five years and has become a “go-to” teacher who provides all of her students and athletes a safe environment.
What steps have you taken to become a teacher?
“I went to East Radford University for my Bachelor’s degree, where I majored in Biology with a concentration in Secondary Education. Then, I got my master’s in curriculum and instruction.”
How would you describe your teaching style?
“Laid back but structured. I have expectations for the kids but I want them to get done what they have to in a fun light way. They have to take my class, so I’m not looking to make it more difficult than it needs to be.”
What inspired you to become the Cox softball coach?
“I played softball my entire life and then, when I was in college, I had a really bad experience with my college coach. I wanted to get into coaching to be the opposite of what she was for me. I want to make a positive impact and help people instead of tearing them down and make them not love the sport anymore.”
How is your coaching style different from your teaching style?
“My expectations are high as a coach and I feel like I have a little more flexibility in trying to get the girls to that point. I can’t make students do reps over and over again in the classroom, but out in the field I can help them get where they need to be by repetition. We don’t have time for that in regular school.”
What is your life motto?
“Life’s happening every day so you might as well enjoy it.”
What do you want students to take away from your class?
“They can have fun and learn at the same time without it being a high-stakes, high-pressure environment.”
What do your athletes to take away from being coached by you?
“They don’t have to perform to perfection every single day. As long as I know they are giving their best effort, they couldn’t have done anything more.”
We love you Ms. Moresco.
