The much anticipated popular music festival, “Something In the Water”, run by 42 time Grammy nominated singer and songwriter, Pharrell Williams, faced another last minute cancellation.
Williams, a Virginia Beach native and Princess Anne High School alum, decided the best way to show his love and support for his home town and bring in revenue for local, small businesses, was to bring “Something In the Water” to the Virginia Beach Oceanfront.
He began the festival in 2019 and each year issues, most beyond his control, have plagued the event. Whether it was the pandemic in 2020 and 2021, the relocation to Washington D.C. in 2022, or the severe weather in 2023 which resulted in one entire day of a three days festival being canceled; the music festival has never been cast in the best light.
After the fans’ outrage last year, Virginia Beach locals couldn’t have been more hype when the announcement came that the ‘Something In the Water’ festival was to take place this October.
Tickets for the festival dropped on Friday, September 13, with a starting price of $180 per ticket. A lineup was not yet released; fans were already a bit weary to purchase a ticket without knowing which artists would be in attendance at the venue.
Williams released an unexpected statement via the ‘Something In the Water’ Instagram account that same Friday, ironically the 13th, announcing the cancellation and postponement of the festival.
According to Williams Instagram (IG) statement, the festival just isn’t ready yet.
Manager at the popular seafood restaurant, 21st Seafood Company, Mindy Bramble, was in favor of the cancellation since the festival had negatively impacted the restaurant in previous years.
“From our business stand point, the postponement of ‘Something in The Water’ is not a negative thing. With road closure and the amenities offered at the festival, our numbers actually decreased while it took place,” Bramble said.
Also according to Williams IG announcement, that the festival would be moved to April 2025.
The announcement that the festival was to take place in October came as a surprise to many fans since the festival has been scheduled to take place in April over the past three years.
A new take on the 2025 festival has fans more excited than ever before, but with cancellation after cancellation ,Virginia Beach locals are left questioning whether or not this time may be different.
