“I am currently the director of Leadership Workshop and Co-President of Beach Buddies. In the past year, I also spent time on the Operation Smile executive board and took pictures of sports teams for the yearbook. I participate in the Virginia Teachers for Tomorrow (VTfT) program, where I interned in a John B. Dey Elementary’s kindergarten class that included Special Education and English as a second language students. With Virginia Teachers for Tomorrow, we held a Day of Service and a Leadership Workshop to promote student involvement at a young age. I would say the best thing I get out of my involvement in school is seeing the growth of others. It is truly special to see people around you flourish. My involvement has given me many opportunities to impact the lives of others around me. With Leadership Workshop, I get to see students step out of their shell. Similarly with Beach Buddies, I get to help special education students create relationships and build on social skills. Nothing quite compares to the feeling of knowing that you had a positive impact on someone’s life. My involvement allows me to build strong relationships with teachers within this school. I get to learn more from than just the subject they teach such as how to improve as a leader from Mrs. Nardelli or striving to be as personable as Mr. Duffy. In terms of personal growth, I have the opportunity to learn from others. I never thought I would learn valuable life lessons from a five year-old kindergarten student, but to my surprise they taught me to have a more positive outlook on life. After high school I plan to attend college and major in either finance or business administration with a minor in accounting. My goal for the future is to be remembered as someone who left a positive impact.”
