Advanced Placement Computer Science teacher Mr. Mackey earned the first ever ‘Staff Spotlight of the Month’ for December. He has been teaching for ten years, nine of them spent at the school.
“Mr. Mackey is the coolest teacher. He always cheers you up when you walk into the class. His teaching style is awesome. If you don’t understand something he will help you understand it immediately. The guy is really funny and always has a story to tell,” junior Easton Hamrick said.
Q: How did you end up becoming a computer science teacher?
A: “I took computer engineering as a degree in college. I was trying to write a program to predict the outcome of sports. I came here in 2014 and I am still working on it, but it’s working for the first time!”
Q: Where did you go to college and what accomplishments did you make there?
A: “I went to the United States Military Academy and got my electrical engineering group from my military. I got my masters from Region while I was here and I’m halfway through my PhD in education.”
Q: What impact do you wish to have on students?
A: “I wish for them to know that life is short and go for it at every chance you get because if you don’t you’ll end up being 70 years old saying, ‘Man I wish I’d done this.'”
