Humans of Cox: May 2023 Edition 2.0
“My name is Curren Lankford and I’m a senior at Cox High School. Throughout these last three years at both Cox and the Brock Environmental Center, I have gained so much knowledge that will help guide me into the future. When I moved back to Virginia from Miami, I started rowing for the CHS team and have no regrets. I have made so many friends and I will continue to row with at Virginia Tech in the fall. I also became a part of many clubs at the school such as CHKD, Operation Smile, Key Club, and NHS. And, through the Brock Center, I had the opportunity to join four internships during my senior year. The first internship was with the Department of Wildlife Resources and Parks and Recreation. With this internship I have created a map for public use that has data on types of fish, amenities, parking, and many other things throughout Virginia Beach’s public water ways. The second internship I was involved with was with Back Bay National Wildlife refuge and Chesapeake bay foundation. In this internship a team of students and I created lesson plans that we used at multiple title one elementary schools. We then created a lesson plan that was taught outdoors at Back Bay. My third internship was with the Active Transition Advisory Committee. On this committee I helped make decisions on budgeting and future plans with public bikeways. My last internship was with a company called Cadmus. I helped create a map of all electric charging stations in Virginia Beach and this map has been used to show that the city of Virginia Beach needs more electric charging stations. Next year I will attend Virginia Tech and am excited to spend the next four years there.” – senior Curren Lankford

I love being an editor for Humans of Cox because everyone has a story and we have the ability to learn about our peers.
