Coquettes compete for Grand Champion title, take the win
The Coquettes Dance Team has been an award winning dance team at the school since the early 90s . So, when the team entered the Manchester Dance competition held at Manchester High School in Northern Virginia last weekend, the tradition of excellence continued.
The Manchester competition is an invite only event, in which the team was honored to receive, along with rival team, the First Colonial Patriettes. The stakes were high for the Coquettes and losing wasn’t an option.
The team began working at the beginning and summer to prepare to not only perform at school events, but to compete. The teams invited were scored and placed in the categories they chose to compete in, including Jazz, Pom, Lyrical, Hip Hop, and Kick. Each team has the opportunity to perform 3 times in various categories.
The Coquettes were on top of their game, placing 1st in Kick, 1st in Pom, and 2nd in Jazz. The teams scores combined secured the Grand Champion title, meaning that the team was the highest scoring team out of the whole competition.
Overall, the girls are honored to be able to carry the winning tradition for the team, and carry on the legacy. Senior captains, Erin Bailey, Olivia Harriman, and junior captain Laci Macan, led to team as one to this victory.
According to Coquette Head Coach Stephanie Morgan, she is proud of her teams dedication to their craft and is looking forward to performing during the winter sports season.
