New NHS sponsors prepare for upcoming year
The school’s National Honor Society (NHS) organization will start the new school year with two brand-new sponsors, Ms. Erskine and Ms. McGovern. Both of these ladies have been teaching high-level English classes including Dual Enrollment English and AP English 11 at CHS for over 25 years and are excited to take on this new challenge together.
When the pair learned that the previous sponsor was no longer at the school, they quickly volunteered themselves for the open position. They will be working in cooperation with the executive board and will be responsible for selecting incoming members, overseeing meetings, monitoring students’ grades and discipline records, planning point opportunities, handling dues, and distributing stoles.
According to Ms. Erskine, the pair volunteered to take on the open position together knowing that it was a very important group in the school and they wanted it to continue.
NHS is one of the most popular clubs at the school and has over 150 members. The organization values service, leadership, scholarship, and character, and these values are instilled through service and events. such as meetings, drives, community service events, and school sports games. Students attend these events in order to earn their required points and earn their graduation stole.
Ms. Erskine and Ms. McGovern plan to meet with the current NHS executive board to discuss the first general meeting and upcoming events. They are also working to create a new NHS group as the school adjusts to the switch to Canvas.
“I am excited to see what new projects the students want to undertake and to be a part of the community,” sponsor Ms. McGovern said.
