‘Toys for Tots’ charity makes annual return
In conjunction with the ‘Toys for Tots’ charitable program, the school annually collects donations for children in need during the holidays.
‘Toys for Tots’ is a 70-year national charitable program run by the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve. Its purpose is to provide happiness and hope to less fortunate children during the holiday season by collecting toys, books, and other gifts that will be sent to hundreds of communities nationwide. These gifts offer the children that receive them recognition, confidence and a positive memory.
In years prior, this program has been implemented by the school’s NobleTeens chapter that works with the Hampton Roads NobleMen organization located in Hampton Roads. However, due to COVID restrictions this year, the school’s organization was not able to be fully developed.
So, history teacher and former advisor, Mr. Horwitz, decided to take on this year’s charity himself.
“This is usually a fairly simple process because I have students who are invested in NobleTeens to help gather toys and prepare them to be sent to children in need,” Horwitz said. “This year, most members graduated already, so I decided to take this on with the hep of some other teachers and supporters.”
Anyone who wishes to donate may do so in the bins located in various destinations around the school. Any and all donations given could potentially make a difference in the life of a less fortunate child.
“Any toys we can provide to these kids is helpful and keeps hope alive within these families; the holidays are truly the best time of the year, ” Horwitz said.
