Falcon baseball ‘brings it home’
Brown dirt flies in the air, while the hot, bright sun beats down on the Falcon Varsity baseball players who have taken their space on “Tilley” Field. This is an average day for the players; they are constantly putting work in, day and night, on and off the field to ensure they can be the best in the ‘757’.
Each year, the coaches and players follow the same tradition, to come up with a saying or some type of mission that as a team, they vow to complete. This year the team decided on “Bring it Home 2021”, which means they’re going to bring home the state championship.
“Last spring was taken away from us due to the COVID 19 pandemic so it has brought a heightened awareness to this spring, which has led us to our focal point for 2021, “Bring it Home”. We are led by a group of nine seniors who have committed themselves to this cause through hard work, dedication, and commitment and with that they are poised to uphold the tradition of our program as well as elevate their legacy as a group,” Head Coach Matt Ittner said.
Although they had a rough year due to COVID when almost everyone’s operations/practices were shut down, they returned to the field as soon as possible with fire and intensity. The team has put in countless hours to perfect their craft.
The team’s record so far is 5-1, already battling or preparing to battle some of the toughest teams in the beach district including the First Colonial Patriots, the Ocean Lakes Dolphins, and the Kempsville Chiefs.
According to senior outfielder Gavin Spencer, the team plans to take on their last few regular season games just as they have in previous games; the boys are going for the “W”.
The Falcon boys can be found at their home field next Tuesday, June 8, at 5 p.m., duking it out against Kempsville for their last regular season game and their long-awaited and much celebrated senior night.
