While students have remained virtual for the first six months of school, that has not stopped the school’s Key Club from fulfilling their philanthropic duties. 

Sponsor Mrs. Faircloth has been able to keep meetings running smoothly using measures such as Zoom meetings while still continuing to host multiple drives and donations for various charities. 

“This year, we had to rethink our approach and find ways that members can still help their community but from afar,” Key Club co-president Jacob Hobbs said. With the pandemic raging on and many left in need, Key Club has been able to provide support, starting with a food drive, where over 40 pounds of canned goods were delivered to food banks. They recently held a winter clothing drive as well, where they collected heavy coats, long clothes, and even socks. 

Similarly, the members of Key Club have found other ways to make an impact. Year-round, members have been writing letters to both those living in retirement homes and veterans. More opportunities include cleaning up trash around the city and sending e-cards to children at St. Jude Hospital. 

 According to Hobbs, we’ve written dozens of letters to people in assisted living facilities, donated over forty pounds of canned goods to food banks, and have held countless donation drives to continue supporting the people who need it most.  Even though the club will remain virtual for the unforeseeable future, there is no stopping them from helping out others.   

“The best activities that Key Club sponsors are the ones that provide opportunities for members to directly help the people in their community,” Hobbs said.
