Seniors recognized, National Merit semi-finalists
Seniors Edward Finman and Alex Perez were recently named as National Merit Scholarship semi-finalists due to their exceptional 2018 Preliminary SAT/ National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®).
According to nationalmerit.org, the mission of National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) is to recognize and honor the academically talented students of the United States. NMSC accomplishes its mission by conducting nationwide academic scholarship programs.
Finman and Perez were chosen out of the 16,000 semi-finalists throughout the country. As the process continues, both will apply to then become one of the 15,000 finalists who will compete for 8,000 different scholarships. Winning finalists are also considered for one of the $2,500 National Merit Scholarships, ultimately awarded to 2,500 finalists.
“It’s an honor to be given the opportunity to become a National Merit Scholar,” Perez said. “The competition is so strong, so I’m excited to see if I will be able to become a finalist and out work other high school students throughout the country.”
