Falcons test knowledge, upcoming AP exams

Advanced Placement (AP) exams will take place Monday, May 6 – Friday, May 17  for all students taking AP classes in Virginia Beach City Public Schools.  Morning exams will be held from 8 a.m. to noon and afternoon exams will be held noon to 4 p.m. All exams and course curriculum are sponsored by College Board and the National Math and Science Initiative (NMSI).

All students enrolled in an AP class are afforded the opportunity to take the test and potentially earn credit for college classes, contingent upon receiving a qualifying score.  The exams are scored on a scale ranging from 1-5.  In order to pass the exam, students need to score a three. However, most colleges and universities only give credit for scores of 4 or 5.

Assistant Principal Dr. Cingel is coordinating all AP exams both on and off campus. Exams for the current school year will take place at the school or at the Virginia Beach Convention Center.  Student scores and more information will be available in July.

“AP courses are very beneficial to students with developing critical thinking and college level academic skills. In addition, students have the possibility of obtaining college credit by earning a 3 or above on the exams, saving money in the long run. For both the courses and exams, we have a great support system in place to ensure all students are successful,” Cingel said.
