Artist Pharrell Williams hosts ‘Battle of the Bands’
In efforts to showcase the music talent of the youth in his hometown, rapper Pharrell Williams and his colleagues hosted the “Battle of the Bands,” event on Wednesday Apr. 24, at his alma mater, Princess Anne High School from 3:30-4:30 pm.
Virginia Beach Marching Band Teams from First Colonial, Cox, Ocean Lakes, Landstown, Princess Anne, Kempsville, and Salem High Schools were all afforded the opportunity to perform for Williams, and played a variety of his songs.
Many students won tickets to the event through random selection and had their tickets delivered to their classrooms by Assistant Principal Mr. Schubart.
” This event was so exciting for our students. We hope they had a great time and got to listen and perform to amazing music,” Schubart said.
To conclude the event, Williams gave a speech about the inspiration the teachers at Princess Anne provided him with and encouraged students with music talent to pursue their careers, and never give up on their dreams.
