Senior fundraises, LLS Benefits
The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society(LLS) holds a fundraising competition every year for high schoolers in Virginia. Students throughout the state hold fundraisers that go towards aiding families affected by Leukemia or Lymphoma. Some things the money will help cover is treatment, transportation, and research.
The student who raises the most money receives a scholarship toward college expenses.
Senior Sydney Doyon began fundraising for the society back in January, reaching out to friends and family to make donations to support her cause.
The LLS recently held a gala at the Altria Theater in Richmond, Virginia, to celebrate the end of the seven week long fundraiser.
Doyon, along with her team member Ty Hundley, raised over just over $3,000 to support the society. Among all participants the total raised was over $120,000.
At the gala, there was a silent auction to raise last minute funds. The night included photo booths, dancing, dinner, and awards.
“Participating in this fundraiser was an awesome opportunity for me to meet new people, and I loved being able to support this awesome cause,” Doyen said.
