‘Here comes the bus’ app allows parents to track transportation
Here Comes the Bus is a newly introduced app that allows parents to track their children’s school bus route. This app is now available to download for free via the App Store and Google Play.
Parents are now able to receive push notifications, emails, or both, on one or more devices that alert them when a bus is near. Parents can also opt to receive different types of notifications, such as bus substitutions and/or stop radius.
The app, while helpful and easily accessible, does have limitations, however.
While it does track general bus transportation for students to and from school, it does not track transportation provided for the Technical and Career Education Center, Advanced Technology Center, Achievable Dream Academy at Seatack Elementary School, after school activities, daycare, athletics, mid-day kindergarten, one-day pull out programs or any other alternate bus stop locations. Furthermore, the bus route and stop information is based on a student’s residential address only.
“I do think it [the app] helps reduce the amount of parents calling dispatch, asking about their kids’ bus route which allows dispatch to focus on more important things. It also helps parents know when a bus is late and prevents parents from leaving their kids at the bus stop for long periods of time,” Assistant Principal Ryan Schubart said.
More features are planned and should be added to the Here Comes the Bus app in the future.
