Falcon “Wing” opens with ribbon-cutting ceremony
The much anticipated ribbon-cutting ceremony and opening of the newest addition to Cox High School, the Falcon “wing” will take place on Friday, Nov. 9, rain or shine, at 4:30 p.m. at the site. The new “Wing” is located to the left of the school near the athletic fields and where portable classrooms sat previously.
The “Wing’s” main purpose is to not only become a safe place for students to socialize during One-Lunch, or various gatherings before sporting events, but also as an outdoor classroom that gives students and teachers a place to engage interactively, developing more hands-on learning activities in a different venue. The “Wing” itself is set up as an amphitheater of sorts, complete with a stage.
Several local businesses, as well as Cox alumni, have lent their time and resources to the project since its initial groundbreaking in late August. PTSA and Booster Club parents have volunteered their time to the beautification of the project, as well as the many students and staff members who have volunteered to plant the 1,550 flowers that will adorn the grounds.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony will begin with the school’s Orchestra students and conclude with a performance from the school’s jazz band.
