NMSI offers incentives for AP exams
The school held a National Science and Math Initiative (NMSI) ceremony on Wednesday, Oct. 31, during one lunch to distribute checks from NMSI, to students that scored a 3, 4, or 5 on an Advanced Placement exam in math, science, or English last year. Each student who passed their NMSI test last year was given a $100 check.
According to Gifted Resource teacher Kay Roberson, students who graduated last year will receive their checks in the mail.
NMSI began awarding these checks to students recently as an incentive for not only taking AP classes, but scoring well on the exams.
Junior Jordan Estes was awarded her check at the ceremony for passing her AP Physics exam. Estes said, “I was really excited about the NMSI program because it offered me extra help, while getting a reward just for studying”.
