“C”-days, to keep or not to keep
The first day of school for Falcons was different than in previous years due to a new idea implemented by Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) administration. Students started the year off with a “C”-day an idea first implemented last year for make-up days. So, for the first time in roughly 20 years, students attended all of their classes and met all of their teachers, including the Falcon Forty Advisory block teachers on the same day.
Having all your classes on the first day can be chaotic and confusing to figure your way around but also has some upsides. Many students found it a nice way to ease into the school year and their new classes.
“The C-day allowed me to visit all my classes and helped me get my mindset off summer and back on school,” junior Audra Chaffinch said.
This schedule gave teachers just enough time to meet each class and go over expectations.
“It was nice seeing everyone and getting a feel for the class, but for the first day it was really overwhelming especially since most students were unaware of the schedule,” math teacher Mrs. Clement said.
In the future, Virginia Beach City Public Schools administration has said that C-days will be used for effective make-up days throughout the year.
