Chorus reclaims Blue Ribbon for Excellence
Falcon Chorus won the Blue Ribbon award for Excellence for the first time since 2014 under the instruction of Choral teacher Mrs. Forbes.
Q: What is the Blue Ribbon award?
A: “Its a distinction for schools in the state of Virginia for who’s bands, orchestras, and choruses all receive superior ratings.”
Q: Where did the performances take place?
A: “Chorus was at Norview High School, the orchestras was here at Cox, and the band was at Tallwood High School. They were in different places, but as long as we all receive superior ratings on our performances, then we become a Blue Ribbon school.”
Q: When did you receive the award?
A: “Well the band was on the second (of March), orchestra was on the ninth, and mine (chorus) was on the 16.”
Q: What does it mean to receive the award?
A: “We had to perform music and receive a superior rating from all judges. So we got a superior ,which is a one, in order to get a Blue Ribbon.”
Q: Is superior the best rating you can receive?
A: “Yes.”
Q: Who participates in the competition?
A: “It includes all the schools in the district. Ocean Lakes and Cox High Schools are the only schools to receive a Blue Ribbon.”
