“I Make a Difference”
The “I Make a Difference” award has been passed from staff member to staff member since the beginning of the school year and can be found in most Virginia Beach schools. The award’s meaning, to highlight the hard work staff members put into the school.
Each Monday morning, one faculty or staff member receives the award live on the school’s broadcast morning announcements. What’s interesting and heart-warming is that the recipient of the previous week’s award chooses who is given the honor for the current week.
Every week, students watch as last week’s winner hands off the award to the person of their choice and tells the audience why they were chosen, in some cases moves the recipient to tears.
Science teacher Ms. Moffett was one of the recent recipients of the esteemed award. Moffett then passed it on to Social Studies teacher Mr. Traub, who she felt would be surprised and honored.
“I was extremely honored and humbled when I received the award” Moffett said. “I wanted to make sure that when I passed it on, it would go to someone who deserved more recognition and would never expect it. Mr. Traub’s reaction was worth it.”
