Operation Smile: change makers
Students in Operation Smile clubs from all over the world gathered together at the annual International Student Leadership Conference (ISLC) meeting in Rome, Italy during the month of July.
Operation Smile was created to provide less-fortunate individuals from around the world who have a cleft lip/palate deformities with free surgery in order to fix their smiles.
At the meeting, the students brainstormed ideas in order to launch the new Operation Smile campaign ‘Change Makers.’
The ‘Change Makers’ campaign is simple: gather excess change around your home, car, backpack, purse, etc. The idea is for the campaign to spread globally, which would result in a small amount of change developing into a large amount of money. The goal is to collect enough money to perform cleft lip/palate surgery on hundreds of people who can’t afford it on their own.
Throughout the school, green cups with the ‘Change Maker’ logo on the front located in various classrooms. These cups are there to spread awareness of this campaign which will launch on World Smile Day, October 6.
