Student artists design Vans

Talented artists participated in the second annual Vans Custom Culture Contest, a competition where high school art students from all over the nation submit a design for a Vans shoe.

The categories inspiring the shoe designs were action sports, music, art, and local flavor.

Designs were then voted on and narrowed down to the best from five schools, whose competitors were invited to attend an event in Los Angeles.  They were then given the chance to win $50,000 for their school’s art program.

Last year, sophomores Madeline Arndt, Emily Flynn, and Katie Shutack participated.

Art teacher Jessica Szymanski headed up the school’s contest again this year.

“This is a really exciting event to be a part of and I’m always looking for opportunities to get kids hyped up on art,” Symanski said.
