Behind the bars
It’s that time of the year again when students head to jail for the annual senior field trip.
Ms. Torrence, Mrs. Jansen, and Mr. Homesly’s government and AP government classes will head to the jail for the full experience of the judicial system. As only 40 people from each class can attend, the slots filled up within just three days. The seniors will sit in on a court case at the Norfolk Circuit Court, tour the jail cells, and witness the reality of life behind bars.
“I think it is a great opportunity for young adults to have a reality check. It always amazes me how successful people can throw their entire lives away with drugs and alcohol. One bad decision can change everything and it really helps kids realize what life is like for inmates,” Torrence said.
