University of North Carolina at Pembroke visit

February 8, 2016

Senior Ashlee Jaworsky recently visited the University of North Carolina at Pembroke to tour the school and meet her future volleyball teammates.  These are her thoughts:

The University of North Carolina at Pembroke (UNCP) is a smaller sized school located in Pembroke, North Carolina.

The average class size is only about 20 students, so it is easier to form better relationships with your professors. Getting quality one-on-one time with teachers can be crucial. When attending a larger university, it’s easy to be seen as a number, or just another student. But when attending a smaller university, it’s easier to be known by name.

At UNCP, there are plethora of options to choose from when it comes to education. There are 41 undergraduate programs, 17 graduate programs in business and education, and one certification program.

This university is known for many of their sports teams. The most widely known teams are their men’s basketball, men’s soccer and football.

The University of North Carolina at Pembroke is division two in athletics. Division two schools are typically smaller and private campuses with under 10,000 students. The majority of the scholarships are partial scholarships, meaning not all of the money you are receiving from the school can go towards one area.

When I first visited the campus, I was fortunate enough to meet and talk to a couple of the professors. They all explained how they love being able to get to know their students on a more personal level, and because of that it is easier for them to understand and help their students.

When my family and I were on our campus tour, we really got to see the friendly atmosphere. Our tour guide knew almost everyone that we spotted walking through campus. It made me feel like I could have a whole different family when I attend school there next fall.

I also attended a volleyball game and a football game. It was very interesting to see how many people showed up to support their sports teams. There was an impressive amount of fans sitting in the stands cheering them on.

I fell in love the second I stepped foot on campus. I can’t wait to spend the next couple years of my life at The University of North Carolina at Pembroke.
