Humans of CHS: Hope Sandlin
Falcon Press staffers chose sophomore Hope Sandlin as this month’s “human” of Cox HS.
“I do cross country and I have ran a total of 500 miles since July, and I had a personal best time in my 5k. Whenever I ran I just wanted to quit because I was so tired, but after you finish the race, the feeling you get is so cool. You just get this feeling of like, ‘I’m done. I don’t have to keep going.’ I remember this one time during a meet, I felt really sick, I had a cold or something. So, I was running the race and I was going super, super slow. It was terrible. I had pretty much given up and I didn’t think I could beat my time, so I was like screw it I hate cross country. And then, Calli, one of my teammates, came up behind me and she was like, ‘Come on Hope, c’mon!’ And just by that, I snapped back and was like, ‘I gotta finish this race!’ I realized that my time affects the entire team and I can’t just let my teammates down. So, I ran with Calli for the rest of the race and ended up doing pretty well. My advice for people is to find someone who motivates you and stick with them.
Don’t give up.”
