Letters to the Editor: “Planners versus passes, controversy continues”

October 6, 2015

Dear Editor,
We are in high school; we shouldn’t be watched, color-coded, and disciplined through unsanitary bathroom passes. The planners were so helpful last year, but this year I had to go buy my own. If the school is trying to save money for other school activities, what are they using the money for? So many people are sick, why should I get sick as a result of having to use un-washed bathroom passes that even our principal or any faculty member would not dare to touch.
-junior Erin Husselbee

Dear Editor,
We need planners back, because the hall passes don’t work. With planners, we could write down homework, we had a calendar and could go anywhere we wanted. With the new color-coded hall passes, I cannot go upstairs when I need to. If I have a study block upstairs, I can’t go downstairs to my biology classroom.

Dear Editor,
As a freshman, I disagree with the badge system completely. I think it is silly to make young adults who are expected to live on their own at college in less than a year, to have to use a bathroom pass. The color-coding makes you feel like you are very restricted. I think planners would be much more suitable. It lets students be more independent.
-freshman Mia Wolfe

Dear Editor,
I prefer planners over passes for multiple reasons. The planner is more sanitary, more organized, and allows more independence. The passes, although they are more cost efficient for the school, they interrupt class and put every thing on pause. They also have fallen in toilets and then are returned right back to the classroom. The planners aren’t as much of a hassle and the students like them much better than passes.
