Fires damages condos on Shore Drive

April 30, 2015

A massive fire damaged eight units in the Chimney Hill Condominiums, near the Lesner Bridge on Shore Drive earlier this week. Two buildings were damaged beyond recovery.

High winds carried flames from a fireplace in one of the residencies to the attic, then on to surrounding buildings.

The destruction amassed to $750,000 and displaced 20 residents but no one was hurt.

Sophomore Jack Briseno lives across the street from the condos and after his father awakened him, he took multiple videos of the blaze. They included a line of fire engines and emergency vehicles lined along the road below him.

“It was much bigger and faster than I originally expected,” Briseno said.

The fire moved quickly due to the high winds and caused much damage in little time.

According to Briseno, he could see the burning homes from his bedroom window and decided to get his phone and record the drama.

Briseno also sent his video to local news upon their request.

In the third and final video he posted on social media site Snapchat, Briseno added a caption that thanked the firemen and firstresponders for keeping the community safe at all times, leaving a positive light on a dramatic situation.
