From ‘trashy’ to ‘classy’; students transform recyclable trash into clothing.

Advanced Placement (AP) Environmental Science students created clothes completely out of recycled materials for the Lynnhaven River Now’s “Trashion Show” to bring awareness to recycling and the environment.

The outfits were modeled by students from around the city at Lynnhaven Mall last Saturday, where they competed for best design and most creative awards.

Junior Denisha Pearson won first place for most creative design.

Prior to the show the students had six weeks to prepare their outfits.  Students had to research the materials they used to see how each type of trash could be recycled, as well as make their clothes.

AP Environmental Science student senior Kayla Johnson participated in making clothes for the show.

“Making the clothes out of all the different materials made me realize all the things everyone can do to help the environment and participating in the show was a lot of fun,” Johnson said.
