PORTABLE CLASSROOM DESTROYED Wednesday night after it was engulfed in flames.

One of the school’s outside classrooms, Portable 2, was totally destroyed by fire Wednesday night.

According to Virginia Beach District Fire Chief Michael Barakey, at approximately 9:28 p.m., a citizen reported that the main school building was on fire. Fire units from four different stations scrambled to fight the blaze.

Four minutes later, first respondents arrived to find the fire was limited to a single portable.  The classroom door was locked so firefighters forced entry and found the portable classroom fully engulfed in flames.

“The fire was quickly extinguished and crews were able to contain it from spreading,” Chief Barakey said.

No one was in the portable and no firefighters were injured.  The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
