Letters to the editor: Academic support or academic “blocks”?

October 8, 2014

Dear Editor,

I personally think that the study block time should be dedicated for students studying since students most of the time, have so much homework. It would be better if students had time to study and do their homework at school because they might have sports or activities after school hours.

Dear Editor,

I used to favor study block from previous school years, but with the addition of academic support this year I don’t like it as much. Taking a decent amount of difficult classes myself, I know how important this time is for students to complete homework and study. Students do not require their study block teachers to give them advice on study habits. It is my opinion that students should be capable of figuring these things out on their own to become more effective and self-sufficient adults in the future.

Dear Editor,

I disagree that study hall should be time for academic support. I signed up for a study hall to have time to myself to complete my work. It helps me a lot during track season, but my time has been cut short with the lessons that are either common sense or something guidance could share with students. I think study hall should be study hall and not academic support.

Dear Editor,

I think that this academic support class should be changed back to a study hall. We should not have to have lectures and lessons if we are not getting credit for that class. I took this class so I could use my time and get work done for other classes. I have softball almost every day after school and on weekends and it makes it very hard for me to try and fit in all my work.
