Humans of Cox: November 2022 Edition 2.0
“Remembering your teachers’ names and meeting friends seemed so easy going into high school, but I went in with not many people to talk to and no one to help me make friends. I’m Carter Shupert and now that I’m a senior, I’ve made many connections with people I can call friends, who have also helped me get through my final months here at Cox. I want to help those to not make the same mistakes I did my freshman year. My biggest mistake was not trying that hard to make friends during my first year at Cox. I stuck with four friends I only saw at lunch and that got lonely fast. So, my advice would be to put yourself out there; join a club or a sports team and talk to people in your classes. Try and keep a good relationship with your teachers too, because you don’t know if you’ll have them for another class again. Next, I would participate in events put on by the school where you know you can find like-minded people. There you’ll have a better chance of finding people you get along with. I’m currently a part of the wrestling team and Finance club and I’ve met so many people I now call friends. One and a half years of normal high school were taken from me and my peers; now you have a chance to work with this new normal and still put yourself out there, so please don’t let the years slip by as I did. Make the most of your time.”
