“Hi my name is Waverly Howard and I am currently a senior at Cox! As far back as I can remember, I’ve always loved weightlifting. My love for lifting and being active started when I was young as I was a multi-sport athlete. If you can name a sport, I’ve probably played it or tried it at least once. As I grew older, my love for lifting and swimming grew and dominated all other sports. In my freshman year, I decided to join the swim team at school and was introduced to weights for the first time. It was like love at first sight and ever since I haven’t let it go. While I didn’t swim in 10th and 11th grade, I stuck with lifting, and focused my goals on becoming educated and strong. While weightlifting isn’t a “real sport” on a roster at school, it became MY sport and helped me not only mentally, but also physically and emotionally. Over the years, I have educated myself on the sport while growing my muscles and mind, as well as  becoming the best person I could be. Now, as a senior, I am back on the swim team, and in the process of becoming a certified personal trainer. I’m also the strongest I’ve ever been. If I could give anyone a piece of advice it would be to get active doing something you love and something that challenges you, because that’s where growth thrives.” -senior Waverly Howard
