Humans of CHS: January 2022 Edition

¨Wrestling has taught me many things and the sad thing is I wasn’t planning on wrestling in high school. After my few seasons at the middle school level I wasn’t that good and I was afraid that I wouldn’t be any good at the high school level. But, with the influence of my middle school and high school coaches, I decided to give it a chance. I overcame the fear and tried out my freshman year and I learned so much. I was on the varsity team, but I was the backup for my weight class. Then, my sophomore year came around and I hit the ground running. I started for the varsity team and improved every day. I had a 16-9 record, but I later got hurt and ended up not being able to finish the season. My junior year started and COVID hit. Luckily, we did have a season, even though it was short, but I ended up having a pretty good year. I finished 4th in the region and was happy with my season. Now I am a team captain and currently have a record of 10-5. I am so grateful that I overcame my fear and continued wrestling because I would not be the person I am today.¨ -Eugene Peterson
