February 25, 2014
Cox High School Office Associate Wendy Matthis has been declared a “Virginia Beach Lifesaver” and will be awarded for her “brave and gallant efforts.” Matthis witnessed a school bus collide with an automobile at the intersection of Holland Rd. and S. Independence Blvd. on Oct. 22 and “placing herself in harm’s way,” swiftly acted to save students’ lives.
According to Human Resource Safety Specialist Herb Maher, Matthis and another witness, Jason Magruder, will be honored by Mayor Will Sessoms on Tuesday, March 18, at 3:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers, second floor, City Hall Building # 2. Friends, family, and media are welcomed to attend.
