Orchestra teacher Aaron Hardwick honored

February 14, 2014

Cox High School Orchestra teacher Aaron Hardwick was recently chosen as an exceptional music teacher and one of the “Favorite Music Teachers of Hampton Roads” by the National Association for Music Education’s Music in our Schools Month.

The Virginia Symphony Orchestra will honor Hardwick at their Saturday, March 15 concert, Of Saxophones and Sibelius.

The association has been accepting nominations from area students, school administrators, and parent associations for their favorite music teacher in the Hampton Roads community since January.

Sophomore Orchestra student Brendan Vachris and his family nominated Hardwick, also making a donation to the organization in his honor.

“I don’t know where I would be musically without him [Hardwick].  He made me want to stay in orchestra because he is a great conductor and connects with us by organizing fun activities,” Vachris said.

The symphony performance will be held at Chrysler Hall at 8 p.m.

According to Virginia Symphony Orchestra Events Project Manager Katie Fenimore, Hardwick’s name and school will be printed in the 3rd edition of this year’s playbill running from March 8 – June 14.

Hardwick will also be featured on the Virginia Symphony Facebook page during the month of March at www.facebook.com/VirginiaSymphony.
