Basketball ends strong
March 2, 2016
The Boys varsity basketball season has finally come to an end. With an overall record of 7 wins and 12 losses, the team had some great season highlights and the team’s winning streak has boosted their confidence for the next season.
Sophomore Hayden Haupt believes that their final streak of wins at the end of the season had an impact on the team.
“It was fantastic to see the team finally click and everybody is hyped for next year,” Haupt said.
After the team’s rivals, the First Colonial (FC) Patriots, won a close game earlier in the season, the team then came back to beat FC by a score of 54-34.
Junior Peyton Porter expressed the player’s excitement about the big win, “It felt great going into a game where the opposing team had high confidence, and then beating them,” Porter said.
Senior night was a bitter-sweet one. The crowd was able to cheer and honor the four seniors who all got a starting role despite the Kellam Knights bringing home the win. However, that didn’t stop the players from working hard and defeating the Knights just a few days later, earning a spot in the Conference Championship.
Senior Chauncy Lizama had mixed emotions about the games’ outcome.
“It was great to see all the support from the fans for our seniors, but we still need to work on finishing out our games and fighting till the end,” Lizama said.
The players were able to bring home a runner up medal after a defeat by Landstown in the Conference Championship. It was the first time they have reached the Conference Championship under the helm of Coach Bobby Wolfe.
The season might be over but Coach Wolfe is satisfied with the outcome this team produced.
“We ended where I thought we would and I hope that we can exceed what we did this year for next year,” Wolfe said.
