Wrestling: packed house, lights out
January 11, 2016
In a “packed house” event, the wrestling team, now 8-1, will take on the #2 regionally ranked and #3 state ranked Tigers of Oscar Smith High School at home on Saturday, Jan. 16 at 5 p.m. Students are asked to wear white, or “white out” the gym to show school spirit.
The “white out” match is also alumni night, where many of the most elite, former state and national title winning wrestlers will be acknowledged for their dedication to the sport.
Head Coach Collin Dozier, a four time state champion alumnus himself, plans to turn the team back into prominent state contenders by beating the 2nd ranked Tigers and restoring the team’s winning legacy.
“No doubt this match with this undefeated team will be a dog fight,” Dozier said. “Regardless of the outcome, I am confident Oscar Smith and the rest of Hampton Roads will realize that Cox wrestling is making a quick comeback.”
Senior heavyweight Chris Haller is also looking forward to the opportunity that the match presents.
“Our goal is to beat Oscar Smith and to get higher in the rankings, while also showing our dominance,” Haller said.
