Senior Jonathan Lomogda recently competed in the Footlocker National Cross Country Championship in California, where he placed 17th after running the 5,000 meter race in 15:35.
Last month, Lomogda became the school’s first cross country state champion since 1984 and is now ranked 27th in the nation.
“Making it to the national meet was one of my goals since the beginning of cross country season, so I was just happy to be there,” Lomogda said. “It was a fantastic trip and an honor to compete against the best guys in the country.”
Cross Country coach Lanny Doan has seen Lomogda’s progression over the years firsthand.
“Jonathan is the most talented and mentally tough long distance runner I’ve coached in 33 years,” Doan said. “Sometimes, he’s the laziest!”
Aside from his most recent awards, Lomogda has also broken several of the school’s records including the 5K, the 4×8 relay, and the medley relay.
According to Doan, he’s on track to break more records including the 1600 m. and 3200 m. in both indoor and outdoor.
